Fight Your Covid19 Sadness with Art

In this time of COVID-19, everything has changed. It’s easy to forget that we once went to art shows and galleries and never gave a second thought to shaking hands, rubbing shoulders, and hugging fellow artists and collectors. Some day those things may become normal again. Isolating ourselves is not easy at all, even if you’re an introverted artist. As for me, all my shows have been cancelled for the foreseeable future, and like everyone else, I am facing the unknown and the unknowable. Luckily my art shows can continue online, on this website and others, and the art continues. One of the enjoyable parts of forced isolation can be that we are forced to think about what we really want to be doing. We can read more, and learn more. Some of us have been casually taking classes (partial ones, at least) on YouTube and places like Udemy and Schoolism. There is a lot of knowledge out there that, whatever your skill level at anything, you can find something enjoyable and enlightening!

Another thing we are all doing some of at least is fighting sadness. This terrible virus has brought a lot of sickness and death, something we are all unable to avoid thinking about often, no matter where we are. It’s no use sugar-coating it. We can lift our spirits somewhat by focusing on things that do not dwell on the virus and its affects on people. And artists and art-lovers, we know that creative people can find interesting and enjoyable and humorous things everywhere, even in the midst of a pandemic. Like, for instance, this great compilation of people being goofy with well-known and respected art of the past.

Ridiculous Images of Bored People Around the World Using Household Objects to Recreate Famous Historical Artworks

Some of these are very clever. I especially love the ones with dogs and cats in them. I don’t paint dogs and cats usually, with some exceptions, but I do love dogs and cats and love looking at photos of them. But one of my favorite things of all time is people re-creating the famous Last Supper painting with their own takes on it. Below is one done with our heroes, the health care workers. Below that you will find a gallery of others that are some of my favorites.
