This video is of artist Bill Davidson, and a portion of his landscape oil painting demo called “Painting Simplified.”
It’s over an hour long, but the actual length of the DVD is over 7 hours, so it’s far from the entire video. However, you can get a good feel of what he’s doing from this shorter version. I am not promoting this artist or what he does, but I think it’s nice to share good painting instruction videos that are FREE, when I find them. (I don’t buy videos this expensive, as a general rule).
I just started painting in oils again, and I’m trying to get the hang of it. I don’t plan to use oil paint exclusively ever, but I thought I should use some of my oil paints up before they harden into concrete! Enjoy this painting video.
Note: If this size is too small for you to see clearly just enable the full-screen mode.
I don’t teach art so I don’t make painting videos. Maybe some day I will, but … probably not. Another note on it – he starts out with an underpainting which I don’t usually bother with. Some painters swear by it, but I think it’s just an extra step that doesn’t make much of a difference. It does depend on the painting. Half the time I don’t even sketch out my paintings, I just go with what is embedded in my head. I do a lot of thinking about the painting before starting one, unless I’m doing an abstract painting.
