Free Andy Evansen Watercolor Demo

It’s still warm enough in the South to get outdoors to get excited about new painting subjects. Take your camera or cell phone to capture scenes to paint, or set up your portable easel right outside. Either way you will find nature very inspirational, even if you don’t get out of the city.

Andy Evansen is a well known watercolor artist from Minnesota, (where I used to live) and the Central Minnesota Watercolorist group there (of which I used to be a member) has had the pleasure of experiencing his overall approach to watercolor painting on several occasions. I was even lucky enough to see one of his painting demos live several years ago. Evansen’s painting style is highly copied. I really like how he paints in dark blue for a value study before he does the regular watercolor painting.

In this video, Andy teaches his style of plein air painting and gives lots of worthwhile tips.  He shows his equipment, talks about how to select a scene to paint and gives a complete demo.   This video is 56 minutes in length.  (Andy begins speaking about 2 minutes into the video.)
