Remembering the rainforest

Limelight at Binders is an annual juried art show that takes place in the Buckhead area of Atlanta, GA. The address is 3330 Piedmont Road NE, Atlanta, and the show is in a gallery within the Binders art store in a shopping center. It features artwork by members of the Atlanta Artists Center, which is also located in Buckhead. Shelly has two paintings in this show, “Memories of a Rainforest” which is pictured here (and for sale here) and “Chaotica”, a flowing abstract painting. The show runs from August 3-31, 2019.

Memories of a Rainforest is part of Shelly’s series called “Memories” and it refers to environmental-themed memories. Will people remember rainforests in 100 years? Will they remember bees, glaciers, butterflies, and glaciers? All these things are disappearing. This is the gist of the Memories series, and it also features a person in each painting to remind the viewer how we got to this point. Nothing happens in a void. Our mark upon the earth is very serious and very sobering. Scientists are now finding microplastics in the deepest parts of the oceans, and the snow in the Arctic. Document what you can, because it’s going fast.
